Mrs. Gretchen Hillesheim

Hello! I am a long-term substitute teacher for 7th- and 8th-grade Language Arts (English) and a distance learning support teacher.  I joined LCWM schools in August, 2020.  I live with my husband, Justin, and my two young sons in rural Vernon Center, MN.  My husband grew up in Lake Crystal and attended LCWM schools.  I grew up in the Amboy - Good Thunder area and attended Maple River Schools.  I have a B.A. from St Olaf College and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from The University of Tulsa.  Prior to teaching, I worked as a mental health counselor and therapist for children and families for almost twenty years.  Relationships with students and their families are truly important to me. I believe that healthy relationships build interpersonal skills that help students become lovers of learning. I also teach students about the importance of being mindful - really learning to connect with yourself and how you think and feel about things. I am always willing to meet with students and their families to problem-solve and help students organize and prioritize work so they don't fall behind.

In my free time, I enjoy playing outside with my kids, crafting, reading and listening to podcasts.

It is easiest to reach me via email: ghillesheim@isd2071.k12.mn.us. I am also available by phone or text at: (507) 519-0879
